abstract The present invention relates to a ceramic component containing silicon carbide and the use of the component. The method of preparation comprises the following steps: a) providing a green body based on SiC, which has been produced by a 3D printing process, b) impregnating the green body with a solution selected from the group consisting of a sugar solution, a starch solution or a A cellulose solution, or comprising a resin system comprising a mixture containing at least one resin, at least one solvent and at least one curing agent, wherein the at least one resin and the at least one solvent are different, c) drying or curing of the impregnated green body, d) carbonating the dried or hardened green body, wherein from the dried solution a fine-pored foam-like carbon scaffold material or from the cured resin system, a fine-pored, sponge-like carbon skeleton is formed, e) silicating the carbonized green body by infiltration with liquid silicon. The ceramic component contains 70 to 95 wt .-% SiC, 2 to 27 wt%, free silicon and less than 3 wt .-% of free carbon.
