abstract The invention relates to a copolymer which can be used as a dispersant which exhibits excellent dispersibility and excellent sag retention capability. A copolymer according to one embodiment of the present invention is a water-soluble copolymer which contains, as constituent monomers, at least one monomer selected from the monomers (A) represented by the formula (1) and the monomers ( B) represented by the formula (2) and at least one monomer (C) selected from unsaturated carboxylic acid monomers (C-1) and unsaturated carboxylic acid esters containing an oxyethylene group (C-2) and is designed so that the monomer content (C) is from 20% by weight to 99% by weight (including extreme values).
