abstract | The invention relates to a positive electrode active material for an alkaline storage battery having an excellent utilization rate even under high temperature conditions. The positive electrode active material for an alkaline accumulator comprises cobalt-containing nickel particles in solid solution, and a cobalt-containing coating layer overlying the hydroxide particles. According to the invention, the positive electrode active material for alkaline accumulator has diffraction peaks between the diffraction angles of 65 ° -66 ° as represented by the value 2θ of a diffraction pattern obtained by measuring the diffraction of X-rays. Among cobalts in solid solution, the trivalent cobalt content is 30% by mass or more; the proportion between the ratio of the solid solution trivalent cobalt content in the positive electrode active material having a secondary particle diameter (≤ D10) for which the percentage of the cumulative volume of the secondary particles is equal to or less than 10.0 % by volume and the ratio of trivalent cobalt content in solid solution in the positive electrode active material is 0.80 to 1.20; and the proportion of the ratio of trivalent cobalt content in solid solution in the positive electrode active material having a secondary particle diameter (≥ D90 or greater) for which the percentage of the cumulative volume of the secondary particles is equal to 90.0 % by volume and the ratio of trivalent cobalt content in solid solution in the positive electrode active material is 0.80 to 1.20. |
