abstract |
An alignment assistant is capable of providing storage stability if it is added in a liquid crystal composition and causes spontaneous vertical alignment of the liquid crystal molecules, even if a PI layer is omitted. The invention also relates to: a liquid crystal composition that has excellent storage stability and allows vertical alignment of the liquid crystal molecules even if a P1 layer is omitted; and a liquid crystal display element that uses this liquid crystal composition. An alignment assistant according to the present invention is arranged between two substrates together with liquid crystal molecules and causes the spontaneous alignment of the liquid crystal molecules. This alignment assistant is characterized in that it contains a first compound which contains at least a first affinity group which has an affinity for the substrates and a second compound which contains at least a second affinity group which has a affinity for the substrates, while having a polarity lower than that of the first affinity group. |
