The invention relates to an ashless lubricating oil comprising a lubricating base oil as a main component, and a mixture of (i) at least one ashless anti-wear additive, (ii) at least one ashless detergent, and iii) at least one aminofunctional antioxidant, as secondary components. The lurbrifying base oil is a monoester obtained by: a) reacting a Guerbet alcohol having 8 to 20 carbon atoms with a Guerbet acid, a linear or branched acid having 6 to 20 carbon atoms, or b) reacting a linear or branched alcohol having at least 6 to 20 carbon atoms with a Guerbet acid having 8 to 20 carbon atoms. The lubricating base oil is present in an amount of from 30 to 99.8% by weight of the oil. The invention relates to a method for improving the oxidative stability and high temperature stability of a lubricating oil in a motor or other mechanical component lubricated with the lubricating oil, comprising using the ashless lubricating oil. |
