abstract The present invention relates to methods and devices for producing carbon nanotubes (CNTs) that have high structural uniformity and low levels of impurities. The device comprises, for example, a module for depositing a catalyst on a substrate, a module for forming CNTs, a module for separating the CNTs from the substrate, a module for collecting the CNTs and a module for continuously advancing the substrate and successively through the modules above. The method includes, for example, the steps of depositing a catalyst on a moving substrate, forming carbon nanotubes on the substrate, separating the carbon nanotubes from the substrate and collecting the carbon nanotubes on the surface, the substrate moving successively through the steps of deposition, formation, separation and collection.
