A rechargeable lithium battery comprising a cathode, an anode and a porous separator or electrolyte disposed between the cathode and the anode, the anode comprising: (a) an anode active layer containing a lithium layer or lithium alloy, in the form of a sheet, a coating or multiple particles aggregated to each other, as anode active material; and (b) a thin layer of a high elasticity polymer disposed between the active anode layer and the porous separator or electrolyte; the polymer having a recoverable tensile strain of 2% to 1500%, a conductivity of the lithium ions of not less than 10-6S / cm (typically up to 5x10-2S / cm) at room temperature, and a thickness of 1 nm to 10 μm, the high elasticity polymer containing a polyrotaxane network having a rotaxane structure or a polyrotaxane structure at a crosslinking point of the polyrotaxane network. |
