abstract |
The invention also relates to a process for preparing a variety of secondary and tertiary alkyl formate esters via the coupling of methanol and secondary (or tertiary) alcohols. The present invention makes it possible to use iron-supported ligand-supported catalysts to produce high yielding formate esters and unprecedented (> 99%) high selectivities. Remarkably, the coupling strategy is also applicable to larger tertiary alcohols, which make it possible to obtain corresponding tertiary formate esters in moderately high yields and high selectivities. |
