The invention relates to a curable silicone composition, characterized in that it comprises at least (A) an organopolysiloxane having at least two alkenyl groups in each of its molecules, (B) an organopolysiloxane having at least two bound hydrogen atoms to one silicon atom in each of its molecules, (C) a polyether-modified silicone comprising repeating units represented by the general formula and having a number average molecular weight of 1,000 to 100,000, and (D) a catalyst method of hydrosilylation, the curable silicone composition for forming a semiconductor optical device having minimal contamination of a housing during manufacture of the semiconductor optical device, light extraction efficiency from a satisfactory electroluminescent element and minimal color inequality or minimal chromaticity deviation. The semiconductor optical device is also characterized in that an electroluminescent element is sealed or covered by a cured material of the composition, and in that it has a minimal contamination of a housing, an extraction efficiency of satisfactory light and minimum color inequality or minimum chromaticity deviation. |
