abstract The present invention relates to an apparatus for assaying a microfluidic system comprising magnetic beads, said apparatus comprising: a platform on which a microfluidic system can be mounted, one or more actuators having a magnet, adapted to directly influence the movement of the magnetic beads housed in a microfluidic system when a microfluidic system is mounted on said platform, and control means adapted to control relative movement of the one or more magnets, and a microfluidic system which, when mounted, enables the magnet to trace a desired path through a mounted microfluidic system, said magnet being positionable at any x and y coordinate of a mounted microfluidic system, said apparatus further comprising: a) at least one rotary actuator adapted to enable a movement of magnet in an x axis, and / or b) means for moving er a microfluidic system mounted in a stepwise manner.
