titleOfInvention LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE
abstract The invention relates to a liquid crystal display device having a transverse electric field mode, from which an internal reflection has been suppressed and which makes it possible to obtain a good black display without coloration. This liquid crystal display device comprises: a first linear polarizer; a first λ / 4 delay layer; a first substrate; a second λ / 4 delay layer comprising a material different from the first λ / 4 delay layer; a liquid crystal layer containing liquid crystals having a horizontal orientation when a voltage is not applied; a plurality of electrode pairs causing the liquid crystal layer to generate a transverse electric field by applying a voltage; a second substrate; a second linear polarizer; and a backlight device. When the colored light emitted from the backlighting device is expressed using the chromaticity coordinates (x, y) in an XYZ display color system, x and y are both at least 0.32. The plurality of electrode pairs comprises: pairs of red electrodes arranged in red subpixels; pairs of green electrodes arranged in green subpixels; and pairs of blue electrodes arranged in blue subpixels. The white display applied voltage for the electrode pairs for the blue differs both from the applied white display voltage for the electrode pairs for the red and the applied white display voltage for the pairs of electrodes for the green.
