abstract The invention relates to a process for the manufacture of a mixture of higher linear chain ethyleneamines and higher nonlinear chain ethyleneamines selected from higher branched ethyleneamines and higher cyclic ethyleneamines, or urea derivatives thereof. said process comprises reacting an amine compound with an ethanolamine compound in the presence of a carbon monoxide delivery agent, a) the amine compound comprising a combination of a a linear chain amine function and a nonlinear amine functional compound which is reacted with a straight chain ethanolamine compound, or b) a straight chain amine functional compound which is reacted with a linear ethanolamine-functional compound comprising a combination of a straight-chain ethanolamine functional compound and a nonlinear ethanolamine functional compound, or c) an amine-functional compound comprising a combination of a linear-chain amine compound and a non-linear amine-functional compound which is reacted with a compound ethanolamine function comprising a combination of a straight chain ethanolamine functional compound and a nonlinear ethanolamine functional compound. According to the invention, it has been discovered that said process makes it possible to prepare suitable mixtures of higher ethyleneamines with linear chains and with non-linear chains, or urea derivatives thereof.
