abstract The invention relates to: a composition containing PFOB, which has a PFOA content lower than that of conventional PFOBs and is not likely to have adverse effects on the environment; and a method for producing PFOB. The invention relates to a composition containing C8F17Br, while additionally containing C7F15COOH, and the content of C7F15COOH being less than or equal to 25 ppb relative to the total weight of C8F17Br. The invention also relates to a method for producing C8F17Br comprising: a step of obtaining C8F17Br by a reaction between C8F17I and a brominating agent; and a step of subjecting the thus obtained C8F17Br to alkaline cleaning, thereby reducing the content of C7F15COOH to 25 ppb or less based on the total weight of C8F17Br.
