abstract The problem to be solved by the present invention is to provide a method for producing a flavone having a glucose-added malonyl group located at the -7 position thereof using a polynucleotide encoding a protein which has a an activity for transferring a malonyl group to position -6 in the glucose located at position -7 in the flavone 7-glucoside, and producing a variety of plants which contains a flavone having a malonyl group added to the glucose located in position - 7 as a co-pigment and therefore may have a modified flower color, preferably a bluer flower color than the colors of the existing varieties. A polynucleotide is used which is selected from the group consisting of: (a) a polynucleotide which comprises the nucleotide sequence represented by SEQ ID NO: 1; (b) a polynucleotide that can hybridize with a polynucleotide comprising a nucleotide sequence complementary to the nucleotide sequence represented by SEQ ID NO: 1 under stringent conditions and encodes a protein having an activity for transferring a malonyl group to the position -6 in the glucose located at -7 position in the flavone 7-glucoside; (c) a polynucleotide which encodes a protein comprising the amino acid sequence represented by SEQ ID NO: 2; and (d) a polynucleotide which encodes a protein comprising an amino acid sequence produced by deletion, substitution, insertion and / or addition of one or more amino acid residues in the amino acid sequence represented by SEQ ID NO: 2 and having an activity for transferring a malonyl group to position -6 in the glucose located at position -7 in the 7-glucoside of flavones; and others.
