Methods and medical uses for determining a dose for a glucagon bolus to be administered to patients with diabetes to treat mild or moderate hypoglycemia, while reducing or avoiding the risk of developing a rebound hyperglycemia. This work is based on simulations using pharmacokinetic (PK) and pharmacodynamic (PD) models for glucose, insulin and glucagon to develop an optimal glucagon dosage regimen for the treatment of mild or moderate hypoglycaemia. depending on the ambient insulin levels, while reducing the risk, or avoiding, of developing rebound hyperglycemia, for example, such as may occur when too much glucagon is administered to a patient with an episode hypoglycemic. |
