The present invention provides short, regularly spaced pooled palindromic repeats (CRISPR) and CRISPR-associated protein (Cas9) which is an effective method for creating targeted mutagenesis in plants. In order to reduce the problems associated with genetically modified plants, the present invention relates to a novel and efficient genome editing system for editing complex plant genomes. In particular, the invention relates to methods for reducing the lignin content of switchgrass. |
