abstract A wound dressing includes a superabsorbent layer, a backing layer, and a charcoal layer. The superabsorbent layer is configured to absorb wound fluid and has a first side and a second, wound-facing side. The backing layer also has a first side and a second, wound-facing side. The backing layer is substantially impermeable to liquid and substantially permeable to vapor. The charcoal layer is positioned between the first side of the superabsorbent layer and the second, wound-facing side of the backing layer. The charcoal layer is configured to increase a moisture vapor transmission rate of the wound dressing.
