abstract A sample is analyzed by providing a device with a first electrode and a second electrode. A biocompatible coating can be formed over the first electrode. A voltage potential difference is created between the first electrode and second electrode to generate an electric field. The sample is disposed within the device and exposed to the electric field. The sample is removed from the device. The voltage potential difference is disabled after removing the sample from the device. The device is rinsed with a clean fluid after disabling the voltage potential difference. The clean fluid can be analyzed for circulating tumor cells captured from the sample by the device.
