abstract One embodiment of systems and methods disclosed herein generate and display augmented reality (AR) content for a real-world environment in which a separate display is detected by a head-mounted display (HMD). AR content may be selected based on media content identified on the separate display. AR content may be displayed at locations in proximity to the separate display device that are selected based on visual characteristics of the locations. AR content may be displayed with render parameters that increase visibility of AR content. One embodiment may track position and orientation of the HMD and select a location to display the AR content based on the position and orientation of the HMD. One embodiment may display virtual connectors between AR content and objects identified in the media content of the separate display. AR content may be displayed at locations that minimize intersections of virtual connectors.
