abstract This illuminating device is provided with: a first light emitting unit that emits light in a first wavelength band that is in an excitation light band wherein fluorescence emission is generated using excitation/fluorescence characteristics of a fluorescent contrast agent, said first wavelength band being close to a wavelength, at which excitation efficiency is maximum; a second light emitting unit that emits light in a second wavelength band not including the first wavelength band; a first light emission control unit that controls the first light emitting unit; a second light emission control unit that controls the second light emitting unit; and a control unit for alternately emitting light from the first light emitting unit and the second light emitting unit by controlling the first light emission control unit and the second light emission control unit. The control unit prevents the first light emitting unit from emitting light when the second light emitting unit is emitting light.
