abstract |
Provided is a mineral-oil base oil satisfying the following requirements (I) to (V).n∙ Requirement (I): The base oil has a kinematic viscosity at 100°C of 2 mm 2 /s or higher but lower than 7 mm 2 /s.n∙ Requirement (II): The base oil has a viscosity index of 100 or more.n∙ Requirement (III): When the base oil is examined for complex viscosity with a rotating rheometer under the conditions of an angular velocity of 6.3 rad/s and strains of 0.1-100%, then the complex viscosity has a temperature gradient Δ|η*| between -10°C and -25°C of 60 Pa∙s/°C or less.n∙ Requirement (IV): When examined for the content of monocycloparaffins (R1) and the content of bi- to hexacycloparaffins (R2) in accordance with ASTM D 2786, then the base oil has a ratio by volume between the contents, R1/R2, of 0.70 or less.n∙ Requirement (V): The base oil has a %C A less than 1.0.nThe mineral-oil base oil makes it possible to prepare an engine oil which is satisfactory in terms of low-temperature viscosity characteristics including low-temperature mileage-saving performance and low-temperature engine starting performance and which is excellent in terms of high-temperature piston-cleaning performance. |
