abstract The invention relates to a method in various embodiments for determining a condition of the skin. The method can comprise: determining at least one skin condition parameter, comprising: while exposing the skin of a user to visible light and/or near infrared light, capturing a spectrum and/or at least one image of at least one part of the visible light and/or near infrared light that has interacted with the skin, the exposure and capturing process being performable with a portable device; comparing at least one comparison region of the spectrum and/or the at least one image with calibration spectra and/or calibration images obtained for a plurality of calibration skin-samples; and determining the at least one skin condition parameter using a result of the comparison and determining the condition of the skin using the at least one skin condition parameter.
