abstract |
Disclosed is a method and system for automatically determining sleep stages. The method comprises receiving input data representing a continuous sequence of sleep epochs measured from a subject; extracting one or more features for each of a plurality of sleep epochs and applying a plurality of weightings for emphasising at least one feature of each sleep epoch of the plurality of sleep epochs; determining from the weighted features of the respective sleep epoch a sleep stage probability for each of a plurality of sleep stages, each sleep stage probability defining a likelihood the subject was in the respective sleep stage at the time the respective sleep epoch was measured; adapting one or more of the sleep stage probabilities of each sleep epoch based on one or more sleep stage probabilities of at least one neighbouring sleep epoch in the plurality of sleep epochs; and determining the final most probable class (FMPC) of the respective sleep epoch, the FMPC being the sleep stage with the highest adapted probability. |
