abstract | [Problem] The present invention addresses the problem of providing a polymer composition for a liquid crystal orientation film in which a polymerizable crystal composition can be oriented when a polarizing element having high dichroism is to be obtained. [Solution] The present invention provides a polymer composition containing (A) a photosensitive side-chain polymer that has a dichroic pigment in a side chain and develops liquid crystallinity at a predetermined temperature range, and an organic solvent. In a substrate having a liquid crystal orientation membrane formed from the polymer composition, a polymerizable liquid crystal composition is applied onto the orientation film, heating and drying are subsequently performed, and UV ray irradiation is also performed as needed, thereby making it possible to yield a polarizing element having high dichroism. |
