abstract The purpose of the present invention is to provide a nickel manganese composite hydroxide and method for producing the same, etc., which when used as a precursor for a positive electrode active material, allows a secondary battery to be obtained that has a high particle packing capability and excellent battery characteristics. The present invention provides a nickel manganese composite hydroxide and method for producing the same, the nickel manganese composite hydroxide being represented by the general formula, Ni x Mn y M z (OH) 2+α , and including secondary particles in each of which a plurality of primary particles are aggregated, wherein the primary particles have an aspect ratio of 3 or more, at least a portion of the primary particles are radially arranged in a direction from the center toward the circumference of the secondary particle, and the secondary particles are such that the ratio I(101)/I(001) of the diffraction peak intensity I(101) of the 101 plane to the peak intensity I(001) of the 001 plane by X-ray diffraction measurement is 0.15 or less.
