abstract |
Provided is a method for efficiently producing mucic acid from a commonly used organic raw material such as glucose or galactose. Provided is a method for producing mucic acid in which glucose or galactose is used as a starting material or an intermediate, and UDP-galacturonate and galacturonic acid are produced in this order as intermediates. Provided is a microorganism which is adapted to have, at levels higher than those of unmodified strains, UDP-galacturonate pyrophosphorylase activity, and at least one enzyme activity selected from UDP-galacturonate-4-epimerase activity, UDP-galactose-6-dehydrogenase activity, and galacturonate dehydrogenase activity. |
