abstract An apparatus and method relating to the field of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) including the processing of a photoplethysmography signal during the CPR protocol procedure to quickly make a determination as to whether or not a spontaneous pulse is present. The user thus obtains rapid information as to whether or not to continue CPR compressions, whether to withold administraton of vasopressors, and optionally, whether or not to continue a defibrillation protocol.
