abstract The purpose of the present invention is to provide: a balloon catheter which is capable of more reliably preventing the occurrence of leaks from a tube wall of a long member constituting the catheter shaft, and in which the long member constituting the catheter shaft is formed so as to have a shorter circumferential length and improved pushability is achieved; and a method of producing a long member for balloon catheters which enables simple production. A balloon catheter (10) is provided with a distal end shaft (410) comprising a resin material, a proximal end shaft (420) comprising a metal material, and an inner tube shaft (510) disposed along an inclined portion (428) and a recess portion (441) of the proximal end shaft. The distal end shaft is joined to the proximal end shaft at a small diameter portion (429) of the proximal end shaft situated further on the proximal end side than a distal end opening (421a) of the proximal end shaft. The distal end opening of the proximal end shaft is disposed further on the distal end side than a guide wire proximal end opening (213a).
