abstract The present invention is provided with: a brightness-change detecting unit (113) that estimates the coordinates of a first endpoint existing on a first boundary between an eye and an upper eyelid and the coordinates of a second endpoint existing on a second boundary between the eye and a lower eyelid by detecting the magnitudes of variations in brightness between pixels along the vertical direction in an eye presence region identified from a face image; an eyelid- reference-position estimating unit (114) that estimates the coordinates of the inner corner of the eye and the coordinates of the outer corner of the eye in the eye presence region; an approximate-curve generating unit (115) that selects a plurality of coordinates from a first selected region formed on a straight line passing the first endpoint and the second endpoint in the eye presence region and that generates a plurality of approximate curves from the individual coordinates in the plurality of selected coordinates, the coordinates of the inner corner of the eye, and the coordinates of the outer corner of the eye; and a shape determining unit (116) that selects an approximate curve that is most suitable as the first boundary from among the plurality of generated approximate curves.
