The present invention is a negative electrode active material for nonaqueous electrolyte secondary batteries, which contains negative electrode active material particles, and which is characterized in that: the negative electrode active material particles contain silicon compound particles that contain a silicon compound containing oxygen; the silicon compound particles contain an Li compound; and a phosphate salt is adhered to outermost layer parts of the silicon compound particles. Consequently, the present invention provides a negative electrode active material which exhibits high stability with respect to an aqueous slurry, while having high capacity, good cycle characteristics and good initial efficiency. |
