abstract | Provided are a fuel assembly and a reactor core into which the same is loaded that are capable of increasing the average fissile plutonium enrichment of MOX fuel while linearizing the variation of the infinite multiplication factor of the fuel and flattening surplus reactivity. A fuel assembly 1 is provided with first fuel rods (21a-21c, 31a) that include Pu but not burnable poison, second fuel rods 41 that include uranium and burnable poison but not Pu, water rods WR, and a channel box 7 for bundling and accommodating the rods. The second fuel rods are disposed furthest to the periphery and/or adjacent to a water rod within a horizontal cross section of the fuel rod arrangement. Where N1 is the number of second fuel rods disposed furthest to the periphery and N2 is the number of second fuel rods disposed so as to be adjacent to a water rod, N2 < N1 (N2 is zero or a positive integer). Where W0 is the number of second fuel rods that are disposed furthest to the periphery and are vertically and/or horizontally adjacent to each other within the horizontal cross section, W1 is the number of second fuel rods that are vertically and/or horizontally adjacent to only one other second fuel rod in the horizontal cross section, and W2 is the number of second fuel rods that are vertically and/or horizontally adjacent to two second fuel rods in the horizontal cross section, the relationship W2 < N2 + W0 < W1 (W2 is zero or a positive integer) is satisfied. |
