abstract The present invention provides a method for producing 1-methylpyrrolidin-3-ol on an industrial scale. The present invention is a method for producing a compound (I), the method including: a step A for reacting a compound (II), formaldehyde in a quantity of from over 1 mol to no more than 5 mol per mol of the compound (II), and hydrogen in a solvent in the presence of a metal catalyst to obtain a mixture that includes formaldehyde and the compound (I); and a step B for mixing the mixture that includes formaldehyde and the compound (I), a secondary amine selected from the group consisting of diethylamine, dipropylamine, diisopropylamine, butylethylamine, pyrrolidine, piperidine, and morpholine, and hydrogen in a solvent in the presence of a metal catalyst, then removing the metal catalyst, distilling, and obtaining the compound (I).
