abstract |
Provided is a method for preparing a genetically-engineered hamster comprising in vivo knocking out of a LDL receptor gene of the hamster. The LDL receptor gene is knocked out by a CRISPR/CAS9 gene editing technique. The genetically-engineered hamster shows significantly high levels of blood lipids, and is thus well-suited for direct use in hyperlipidemia and atherosclerosis studies, and is a small animal model with high similarities to human familial hypercholesterolemia. Also provided is a method for screening drugs using the genetically-engineered hamster. |
