abstract An activation device (11) for switching valves (10) of an internal combustion engine with an adjustable compression ratio, wherein each switching valve serves to control a flow of hydraulic oil in hydraulic chambers of an eccentric adjustment device of a respective connecting rod of the internal combustion engine, and wherein each switching valve has a pick-up (12) which can be actuated by the activation device (11), wherein the actuation device (11) has, for each switching valve and therefore for each pick-up (12) to be activated, a switching fork (13) with switching fork limbs (13a) lying opposite one another, wherein each of the switching fork limbs (13a) of each switching fork (13) is contoured on a side facing the respective pick-up and formation of a forward movement function face (21) and a return movement function face (22), and wherein a transition face (23) is formed between the forward movement function face (21) and the return movement function face (22) of the respective switching fork (13a).
