What is described is an electrochemical cell having a positive electrode, a negative electrode, a separator arranged between the electrodes, an aqueous electrolyte with which the electrodes are impregnated, and a housing which has been sealed liquid-tight and in which the electrodes, the separator and the electrolyte are arranged. The electrode contains an aryl ethoxylate of the general formula (I) where n = 1 to 50 and Ar = a phenyl radical of the formula (II) or a naphthyl radical having one of the formulae (III) and (IV), in which * marks the atom to which the ethoxy radical of the formula (I) is bonded and R 1 to R 3 are independently H or a C 1 - to C 20 -alkyl radical. |
