abstract | Disclosed herein are methods to determine whether or not a subject has been exposed to radiation, and if exposed, to determine the approximate dose of radiation exposure. In particular embodiments, the methods including detecting the presence or absence of one or more RNAs (such as one or more miRNAs, mRNAs, and/or IncRNAs) in a sample from a subject, such as a subject who has been exposed or is suspected of having been exposed to radiation. In particular examples, the presence or absence of the one or more RNAs is determined based on whether an amount of a particular RNA is detected in a sample from a subject at a level above ( e.g. , the RNA is determined to be present in the sample) or below ( e.g ., the RNA is determined not to be present (is absent) in the sample) a pre-determined cutoff value or a control. |
