abstract The present invention relates to a pharmacuetical composition for preventing or treating thrombosis, comprising an extract of Salicornia europaea ( Salicornia spp.) containing phenolic acids and flavonols as active ingredients. The composition of the present inventoin: exhibits a strong anti-thrombotic activity through an effect of inhibiting platelet aggregation, which initiates the formation of blood clots, together with the inhibition of blood clot formation-related enzymes and blood coagulation factors; never exhibits a hemolytic activity on human erythrocytes; has an excellent thermal stability; and does not exhibit the loss of a blood coagulation factor inhibitory effect and a blood clot formation-related enzyme inhibitory effect even in acidic conditions of pH 2 and in the plasma, and therefore, the composition of the present invention is expected to be used for the prevention and treatment of thrombosis, such as an ischemic stroke and a hemorrhagic stroke, through the improvement of blood circulation. The composition of the present invention is processed in various forms, such as an extract, a powder, a pill, and a tablet, and can be formulated in the form that allows the composition to be taken at any time.
