abstract The invention relates to a method and kit for determining animal welfare, also animal wellbeing. In particular, the invention relates to a method for analysing the expression of IGF (Insulin-like growth factor) binding protein, in particular IGFBP-2 and IGFBP-3, as a marker for animal welfare. Said method is different due to the examination of said marker between short-term and long-term impairment of the welfare of the animal, i.e. for example between impairments, the short-term for example when transporting animals, or impairments which occur due to illness and/or due to inadequate conditions in which animals are kept.
