abstract | In an embodiment, an analytical method comprises dissolving a polycarbonate in a non-chlorinated solvent to form a polycarbonate solution; adding the polycarbonate solution dropwise to boiling water to form a mixture comprising a chloride solution fraction and a polycarbonate fraction; separating the polycarbonate fraction from the chloride solution fraction; measuring at least one of a polymeric chloride content of the polycarbonate fraction and a ionic chloride content of the chloride solution fraction. In another embodiment, a polycarbonate polymerization process comprises analyzing a chlorate content of an alkali metal hydroxide solution and interfacially polymerizing phosgene and a dihydroxy compound in the presence of the alkali metal hydroxide solution and an interfacial catalyst to form a polycarbonate. |
