abstract Provided are: an edible pigment composition which has a small average dispersed particle diameter of pigment and excellent dispersibility, and which is able to be directly printed by an inkjet method on tablets and the like of pharmaceutical products, food and the like; and an aqueous ink composition for inkjet. A pigment composition according to the present invention is characterized by containing a colored pigment formed from iron oxide and a sodium polyacrylate having a mass average molecular weight of 1,500-10,000, and is also characterized in that: the content ratio of the colored pigment formed from iron oxide to the sodium polyacrylate is from 1:0.05 to 1:1.5 on a mass basis; and the average dispersed particle diameter D50 of the colored pigment formed from iron oxide is from 10 nm to 300 nm.
