There is herein described a glass composite wavelength converter and a light source containing same. The glass composite wavelength converter comprises phosphor particulates dispersed in a solid glass matrix. The glass matrix is comprised of a glass selected from a soda-lime glass, a Sb 2 O 3 -Bi 2 O 3 -B 2 O 3 glass, a phosphate glass, a Bi 2 O 3 -ZnO-B 2 O 3 glass, and a PbO-ZnO-B 2 O 3 glass, wherein the phosphor particulates convert at least a portion of a primary light into a secondary light and the glass is substantially transparent to the primary light and the secondary light. In a preferred embodiment, the light source emits a warm white light having a CCT of about 3000K. |
