abstract There is disclosed a composition for treatment or prevention of bacterial diseases in aquatic animals; more particularly fishes; comprising an extract from betel leaves; wherein the extract comprising hydroxychavicol. The composition further comprises further comprising hydrochavicol, hydroxychavicol, hydroxychavicol acetate, allypyrocatechol, chavibetol, piperbetol, methylpiperbetol, piperol A, piperol, sterol, chatecol, and tannin. It is anticipated that the composition can prevent and treat bacterial diseases in freshwater and marine fishes. A method is also disclosed herein.
