abstract The ultrasonic transducer according to the present invention is provided with: a plurality of piezoelectric elements for emitting an ultrasonic wave in response to the input of an electric signal, and converting an ultrasonic wave incident from the outside into an electric signal; and a mask unit provided between the plurality of piezoelectric elements and the ultrasonic wave radiation surface of the ultrasonic transducer, the mask unit being capable of masking a desired divided region among divided areas formed by dividing an elevation direction orthogonal to a plane that is parallel to an ultrasonic scanning direction into a plurality of areas, and the mask unit furthermore reflecting an ultrasonic wave in a direction different from the propagation direction of the ultrasonic wave in the masked divided region, and allowing the ultrasonic wave to pass through in the propagation direction in the divided regions other than the masked divided region.
