The present invention makes it possible to highly precisely identify the type and characteristics of a substance, irrespective of the thickness of the substance. This data processing device (12) processes discrete values for individual pixels and energy regions of X-rays that are emitted from an X-ray tube (21), pass through an object, and are detected by a photon-counting detection unit (26). The device (12) is provided with a means (35) for computing an image of an object (OB) on the basis of the discrete values, and a means (35) for setting a region of interest in the image. The device (12) is further provided with: a means (35) for removing, from the image, pixel information serving as the background of a substance present in the region of interest; and a means (35) for computing, on the basis of the discrete values for each of the pixels and each of the energy regions of the X-rays within the region of interest, transmission characteristics inherent to the X-rays of the substance as inherent information for each of the pixels. |
