abstract |
Provided is a viscosity index improver which contains a comb-shaped polymer and satisfies the conditions (I) or (II) described below.nCondition (I): With respect to a solution which is obtained by dissolving the viscosity index improver in a mineral oil so as to have a solid content concentration of 25% by mass, the ratio of the storage elastic modulus (G') of the solution to the loss elastic modulus (G'') of the solution as measured at a measurement temperature of 70°C under predetermined conditions is 0.40 or more.nCondition (II): With respect to a solution (α) at 25°C, which is obtained by dissolving the viscosity index improver in a mineral oil so as to have a solid content concentration of 25% by mass and a solution (β) which is obtained by heating the solution (α) to 100°C at a predetermined heating rate and then rapidly cooling to 25°C at a predetermined cooling rate, the ratio of the storage elastic modulus (G') of the solution (β) to the storage elastic modulus (G') of the solution (α) as measured at a measurement temperature of 25°C under predetermined conditions is 2.0 or more. |
