The present invention provides a liquid crystal display device that, using a photoalignment film, maintains a good voltage holding ratio over a long period of time, and prevents the occurrence of burn-in and stains on a display screen. This liquid crystal display device has an active-matrix liquid crystal panel and a backlight. The liquid crystal panel has a liquid crystal layer, a pair of substrates that sandwich the liquid crystal layer, and alignment films that are disposed on the liquid crystal layer-side surfaces of the pair of substrates. The alignment films are photoalignment films formed from a material exhibiting photoalignment properties and have a carboxyl group on the liquid crystal layer side. The liquid crystal layer contains a liquid crystal material and a nitrobenzene derivative. |
