The present invention provides: a carbon material which comprises 50-1000 mass ppm of vanadium (V), has an average particle size D50 of 3-7 μm, a tapping density of 0.40-1.00 g/cm 3 after 400 taps, a BET specific surface area of 4.0-12.0 m 2 /g, an R value (ID/IG) of 0.10-0.30 determined by Raman spectroscopy, and an interplanar spacing d 002 (nm) and size Lc 002 (nm) in a c-axis direction of a (002) plane of graphite crystal satisfying formulas 3362 ≤ d 002 ≤ 0.3370 and -23660 x d 002 + 8010 ≤ Lc 002 ≤ -23660 x d 002 + 8025, and which is well-suited for non-aqueous electrolyte secondary batteries which have low resistance and high coulombic efficiency; a method for manufacturing the carbon material; a battery electrode carbon material using the carbon material; an electrode; and a lithium ion secondary battery. |
