Provided is a positive active material for a lithium secondary battery, the material being a compound capable of reversible intercalation and deintercalation of lithium and represented by chemical formula 1: [chemical formula 1] Li a M 1 - b M' b O 2, wherein metal M is at least one element selected from the group consisting of Ni, Co, and Mn; M' is at least one element selected from the group consisting of Zr, Ti, Mg, Ca, V, Zn, W, Mo, Sn, Ga, B, and Al; 0.90<a<1.10; and 0.09<b<0.15, the compound of chemical formula 1 comprising a coating layer positioned on at least a part of the surface thereof, wherein the coating layer comprises Li 3 PO 4 and also comprises a composite coating layer further comprising lithium metal oxides, metal oxides, or a combination thereof. |
