titleOfInvention Method of operating redox flow battery, and redox flow battery system
abstract A method of operating a redox flow battery, in which a positive electrode electrolyte in a positive electrode tank is supplied by circulation to a positive electrode, and a negative electrode electrolyte in a negative electrode tank is supplied by circulation to a negative electrode, thereby effecting charging and discharging, wherein: the positive electrode electrolyte contains manganese ions and added metal ions; the negative electrode electrolyte contains at least one type of metal ion selected from the group comprising titanium ions, vanadium ions and chromium ions; the added metal ions are at least one type of metal ion selected from the group comprising cadmium ions, tin ions, antimony ions, lead ions and bismuth ions; and the method includes a dissolving step in which, if a metallic precipitate, formed by the reduction of added metal ions which have migrated from the positive electrode electrolyte to the negative electrode electrolyte circulation pathway, is contained in the circulation pathway of the negative electrode electrolyte, the metallic precipitate is dissolved in the positive electrode electrolyte and is ionized.
