abstract |
The present invention provides: a silicon oxide-coated zinc oxide in which the elution of zinc ions is suppressed even when the zinc oxide is coated with silica formed from an alkali metal silicate salt; a method for preparing the same; and a composition and a cosmetic material which contain the silicon oxide-coated zinc oxide. This silicon oxide-coated zinc oxide is formed by coating the surfaces of zinc oxide particles with a silicon oxide film, wherein the average primary particle diameter of the zinc oxide particles is over 50 nm to 500 nm, and when the silicon oxide-coated zinc oxide is kept for one hour in a buffer solution having a pH of 5, the elution rate S, defined by equation (1), of zinc oxide is 50% or less. (1) Elution rate S = (amount of eluted zinc oxide)/(amount of zinc oxide in silicon oxide-coated zinc oxide). |
